Real Money Omaha Poker

If you’re not a totally novice poker player, chances are that you’ve started playing with Texas Hold’em, the variant that most people know. Playing Omaha poker for real money is not that different from Texas Hold’em, but there are things that need to be done differently, since the way the game is played changes the strategy that is required.

The main difference that you will notice between Omaha and Hold’em is the fact that while in the latter type of game the players receive two cards each, in the former there are four cards that are dealt. Since Omaha players get four cards, the way the game is played changes significantly, even though the other rules are mostly the same as far as the progression of the game is concerned.

Just like Hold’em, Omaha is a poker game where community cards are used and the table seats up to ten poker players. Taking the chips of the other players is what you’re trying to do here and that’s achieved either by winning the showdown, or by making the other poker players give up their hands until you’re the last player standing.

Real Money Omaha Strategy Tips

When you’re playing real money Omaha poker games, you should try to use a combo between a conservative strategy and the use of semi-bluffs. Once you manage to use this strategy effectively, you should be able to get the most out of the cards you’re dealt. In order to properly select hands in this game, the player has to be able to use patience and discipline, and to be organized and read other players properly. The semi-bluff is useful either because you can win the pot directly, or because it can show you when others have good hands.

Don’t make the mistake of being too confident in yourself just because you are good at Texas Hold’em. Omaha is a different game and the techniques which are used in it are not learned by playing Hold’em.

One thing to keep in mind when you’re playing real money Omaha is that the bigger number of cards that are dealt allows more players to get good hands. When you’re dealt a good hand, don’t get excited. A low flush for example is not likely to be good enough when there are so many hole cards. The best possible hand you can get when you’re playing this game is a combination of 2 Aces and 2 Kings. Since a straight or a flush is more likely to appear, the draw hands have a better potential value in this game.

Betting with real money should be done carefully and you should feel like you have a strong hand only if you have the best possible cards. If they’re only somewhat better, it’s a good idea to be moderate and see how the others are doing and how much they’re betting.

There are two things that will help you considerably when you’re trying to make money consistently by going against Omaha players. The two are selective aggression and patience.
